The Organisation
Islamic Relief is an international relief and development organisation alleviating poverty and suffering regardless of race, political affiliation, gender or belief. Established in Birmingham in 1984 by doctors and activists Islamic Relief has grown to be a leader in humanitarian response world-wide and is well-known as an effective and highly respected international NGO.

Providing emergency relief and disaster preparedness in over 30 countries Islamic Relief also specialises in providing leadership on sustainable development, education and training, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, income generation and orphan support.

Islamic Relief Australia is a member of the global Islamic Relief family and has an annual turnover of almost $10m, employs 19 staff and over 150 national volunteers to support local and international emergencies, welfare and development projects, as well as fundraising and advocacy.

Islamic Relief Australia is a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) and adheres to the ACFID Code of Conduct which defines minimum standards of governance, management and accountability of development for NGO’s.

The Role
An exciting brand new role within our Fundraising and Community Relations Team! This role will lead and manage all external communications and media relationships, building organisational identity and brand management. The role supports fundraising and community relations activities and contributes to the growth and quality development targets within the IRAUS Strategic Plan (2018-2022).

Requiring expert PR/comms experience to guide and inform the CEO, the Board of Trustees and Executives on external communications priorities. This role works collaboratively with programs and institutional relations teams to develop content, advocacy and education materials.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the communications and engagement plans, building strong, effective relationships across the global organisation, the sector and the community.

Skills Required
You are currently operating at a senior level in a similar role ideally for another relief and development agency, NGO, education institution, charity or like-minded government agency or corporate.

You are an expert in the field of PR/communications and a self-starter who has initiative, professional judgement and the ability to lead and motivate a small team.

Your influential communication style will be key to developing the organisational and community relationships required to achieve the objectives if this role – you will have a network of sector and media contacts developed throughout your career.
The successful candidate will also have the following: skills/qualifications:
Tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, journalism or other relevant field.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a senior marketing or communications role in the Not-for-Profit or social justice sector in Australia.

Highly ethical and respectful towards the organisation’s values and culture, its staff, volunteers and all stakeholders.
