The 2017 Annual Report of Islamic Relief Australia marks an organisational milestone in its development and progress to create better futures and a safer world.

Our projects aim as quoted by Salwan Ameen, Country Director of Islamic Relief Australia,

“to build long term sustainable projects. These projects give communities the skills and  courage to become self-sufficient and no longer be dependent upon humanitarian aid.”

Islamic Relief Australia engaged nationally and internationally with vulnerable groups in aim of providing support where needed. Other collaborations include with local councils, groups and individuals to provide and serve the community through addressing domestic violence and providing for the homeless.

Islamic Relief engaged in emergency responses all over the world, including Ethiopia, Myanmar, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Syria and Yemen.

In Yemen, over 2,000 individual deaths and over 978,000 reported cases were caused by the cholera crisis. In response to the crisis we provided hygiene kits and water purification systems for households to prevent the spread of cholera within households.

IRAUS worked with vulnerable families in the Philippines and Indonesia. In the Philippines we collaborated with the economically vulnerable including woman and people with disability to develop micro-enterprises and strengthen the capacities of local government services to provide effective support to the vulnerable with their communities.

“Most of us here in South Upi are indigenous people and we are not Muslims. At first I thought that the help from Islamic Relief was only for Muslims. But when they came to our township, they said that they provide assistance to the poorest and most vulnerable, regardless of religion. I felt hopeful that we would also receive help.”

In Indonesia we supported families by increasing their economic security through providing them with skills and training in hydroponic and greenhouse agriculture. Community members were provided with training and mentoring in technical, financial literacy and marketing skills.

We are driven to create positive and lasting change all around the world. We look forward in continuing to share our vision with our donors, sponsors and stakeholders in making the world a better place.
