“The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever” – Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Lebanon is on the brink of an economic collapse. With high unemployment rates and staggering inflation, many are struggling to make ends meet. The country now faces a looming humanitarian crisis with famine predicted by the end of the year.
On top of this, recent explosions in Beirut have claimed the lives of at least 73 people, injured thousands and caused widespread devastation – pushing the people of Lebanon into a state of despair.
Currently, hundreds of thousands of people are unemployed and the local currency is so devalued that even those working cannot afford basic needs. Islamic Relief Lebanon reports that the country has entered a period of hyperinflation with food prices increasing by almost 200 per cent in July alone.
Furthermore, months of lockdown has only worsened the economic situation with millions now in need of vital humanitarian assistance.
Islamic Relief is on the ground in Lebanon providing urgent food aid and basic assistance (such as hygiene kits) across the country.
