Around 10 million people (nearly a third of Iraq’s population) are now in need of humanitarian assistance. More than 3 million people have been forced out of their homes and are living in camps or among host communities. With an additional 250,000 Syrians who have fled the neighbouring conflict currently also displaced in Iraq, our team is currently appealing for the international communities support.
As of October (2016), Islamic Relief has launched a £2 million response plan. Our Islamic Relief regional desk officer in Erbil, Tom Colley, said “It’s an inhospitable place to stay because it’s meant to be temporary, but the reality is these camps are likely to be more long term than anyone intended. We need to look beyond food now to more long-term programmes.”Immerse yourself in a night of Iraqi culture on Saturday the 18th of March and join us to make a difference to someone's life.
