ABOUT THE EMERGENCY

Flattened on November 8th 2013 by Typhoon Haiyan, residents within the Leyte province in the Philippines have to manoeuvre around jagged pieces of debris, uprooted trees and sadly piles of dead bodies in search of any food, water and supplies.
10,000 people are thought to be dead so far in the Leyte province alone, with the toll expected to rise.
With people already dying from starvation and dehydration, survivors have begun raiding stores, houses, and shopping centres to get their hands on whatever supplies they can find.

How Islamic Relief is helping

Islamic Relief is accelerating response activities in the affected areas and enhancing ground capacity by deploying additional staff to support the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) in the field.
